SUSTAINABILITY > OUR RESPONSIBILITY FOR PRODUCTS

What we believe

We want to give our consumers the best of fruit with our juices, nectars and fruit beverages for a healthy and enjoyable life every day. We work toward that objective with great commitment in order to meet our own high standards – with respect to new product concepts and recipes, product safety and quality or the reduction of packaging material and opportunities for the use of alternative recyclable materials. Thus sustainability criteria play an increasingly important role in the development of new products.

What we are doing already

1. We don´t put just any fruit in the bottle
We have always applied the highest standards when it comes to product quality and safety. These also include strict quality standards comprising specifications regarding GMO-free raw materials (materials containing no genetically modified organisms). We don’t put just any fruit in the bottle – only carefully selected ones. We purchase them all over the world, but rely wherever possible on raw materials from local sources. Our “Local Harvest” product concept is just one example.

What we are doing already

2. Lighter and more sustainable packaging
We have also made considerable progress toward sustainability in packaging in recent years. Between 2007 and 2012, for example, 70 % of all primary packaging was converted to FSC-certified (Forestry Stewardship Council) carton packaging material. We also succeeded in reducing the weight of PET bottles by 15 % with no sacrifice to quality during the same time frame.

What we are working towards

We are now focusing intensely on further systematic efforts to cut back on packaging materials in the coming years, while exploring possibilities for the use of alternative recyclable packaging materials. Our goal is now to increase the percentage of FSC-certified carton packaging units from the current 70 % (as of 2012) to 100 % in 2014 (for primary packaging) and by 2016 (for secondary packaging).

We are also committed to reducing the weight of PET bottles by 10 % by the year 2020, after having achieved a reduction of 15 % between 2007 and 2012. We also aim to reduce the weight of secondary packaging by 20 % by 2020. Yet another important consideration relates to the testing and use of recycled or bio-based PET materials. Our goal is to increase the percentage of alternative recycled materials to 25 % by the year 2020.
