What we believe

Preserving the environment for subsequent genera-tions is important to
us as an international corporate enterprise. Apart from environmental
protection in the strict sense of the term, we are also focusing on a
number of different criteria applicable to the entire value chain, from
tree to glass. Social aspects such as working conditions at our suppliers’
facilities are of equal importance to us in this context.

What we are doing already

Production

1. Less is more
We have achieved good results through our efforts to cut back
on the use (per 100 litres of product) of energy, water and
waste water during production at our own plants in recent years.

We also succeeded in increasing our relative consumption of
renewable forms of energy to 22 % in 2012. We will not rest
satisfied with this improvement, however, but will continue
to work toward even more sustainable production in the years
to come.

2. Minimum standards for the fruit juice industry in force
The Eckes-Granini Group has consistently met the internationally recognized minimum economic, ecological and social standards for the fruit juice industry for years. These standards are defined in the SGF/IRMA Code of Conduct (Sure, Global, Fair).

And we have established these requirements as binding for our suppliers as well. We recently developed a programme of our own for the purpose of evaluating the efforts of our suppliers in the area of sustainability.

1. Independent certification for suppliers
As an international business enterprise, we believe that our responsibility is not confined to our own facilities but goes far beyond – when it comes, for example, to the conditions under which the raw materials we use are produced. Yet we must also accept the fact that our influence is relatively limited at this point in the value chain.

What we are working toward

Production

Further reducitons in consumption
We aim to reduce consumption levels even further at our plants in the years
to come – by 10 % each for energy, water and waste water. We also aim to
increase the relative use of renewable forms of energy from the current
level of 22 % (2012) to 30 %.

What we are working towardn

Logistics

Additional focus on logistics partners
We have been focusing closely on logistics since 2013. Accordingly, each of our TOP 20 logistics partners in each country has implemented a sustainability programme and is audited regularly by an accredited institution. We have also established a binding requirement that transport contracts cannot be transferred to third parties. Last but not least, we remain committed to continuous improvement with respect to planning, general requirements, structures and processes as well as transport.
